Find the battery hatch and make sure it is set to "open." Make use of a flathead screwdriver, coin or a similar tool to turn the hatch to open. Then, carefully remove the battery by lifting the side closest to the key-ring hook. Be sure to wear rubber gloves to avoid damaging the contacts or the clips.

Place the new battery in the socket once the old one was removed. Make sure that the positive end of the battery is facing upwards, and that all clips are in place. Note: Certain older Volvo models use an entirely different type of battery that is the CR2025. CR2025 batteries have 7 tenths of a millimeter less than a CR2032 and you'll have to be extra careful when replacing your battery.
