The patient should be informed to be aware that the use of AMBIEN in the third trimester may induce respiratory depression as well as sleepiness in infants. The patients should avoid drinking alcohol and using illicit or prescription drugs and street drugs prior or immediately following AMBIEN treatment.

Dosage

AMBIEN is known to cause impaired psychomotor function over the following day. It shouldn't use in conjunction with alcohol or any other drug that enhances the zolpidem metabolic rate. There have been instances of elderly people falling after taking doses of 10 mg tartrate zolpidem. Advise patients to get ambien up slowly after waking up and do not to operate any machinery or drive while taking AMBIEN.

Instruct pregnant women that breastfeeding is not recommended and that AMBIEN may be absorbed into breast milk. Babys need to be watched to ensure that they do not experience excessive hypotonia or sedation. Depression of the respiratory system can develop.

AMBIEN may cause severe liver malfunction in those with severe liver impairment. Combining zolpidem with other medicines that impact GABA receptors, such as anticholinergics or benzodiazepines can raise the likelihood of developing the reaction (see drug interactions]. AMBIEN may cause tolerance and dependence. Discontinue treatment as soon as it is clinically feasible.

The Side Effects

AMBIEN is most commonly connected with dizziness and drowsiness. It can also cause nausea, headaches or stomach discomfort. The adverse effects of AMBIEN are mild, and usually disappear on their own within two days.

If you're taking AMBIEN and intend to drive or do any other activity that requires the ability to be alert, you should take your time. This is especially true if the medication was taken in the wake of a long sleep (7-8 hours) in combination with alcohol or with any other medication that can affect the CNS. AMBIEN was found in numerous studies that it can prolong the time that sleepers spend in their deepest stage of sleep (stage 4.) along with in REM (paradoxical) sleeping.

Be aware that AMBIEN might result in a psychomotor impairment the next day if it is taken with less than 7-8 hours sleep remaining, together with alcohol; or other medications that raise the blood levels of zolpidem (see the warnings and precautions belowfor more information]. Patients should be advised to take AMBIEN only at bedtime and not during the time of the day.

Safety Tips

Patients should not take AMBIEN when they are using the alcohol or any other medication that can cause tiredness. When taking AMBIEN it is recommended that patients wait for at least 7 to 8 hours before they take a drive or participate with any other type of activity that requires a full concentration.

Examine for indications of breathing issues, sedation or limpness among infants breastfed [see Specific Populations]. AMBIEN Cmax values and T1/2 increased in old (>70 years old) patients compared with younger adults.

Warns

Some unlicensed online pharmacies offer medications that are not authentic or may contain dangerous ingredients. FDA suggests purchasing prescription drugs through licensed online pharmacies. The FDA BeSafeRx website allows you to verify the status of your license of the particular pharmacy.

Instruct patients to follow the prescriptions carefully. Also, be aware that AMBIEN might result in sleep-related behaviors that are complex, for example, walking, driving making and eating food, taking phone calls or engaging in sexual activity without being fully awake. The occurrences can cause severe injuries or fatalities. Stop taking AMBIEN and suggest that patients take immediate medical care whenever they exhibit these symptoms [see WARNINGS AND PRECAUTIONS].

Coadministration with other drugs which act on GABA receptors can increase the chance of developing CNS depression (see DIAGRAM INTERACTIONS). If a woman becomes pregnant while taking AMBIEN must inform their health care providers.
