Buying a Tandem Double Buggy

A tandem double buggy could be a great choice for twins or children who are very close in age. They are smaller than side-by-side buggies and are perfect for narrow spaces like doorways, public transport and rough terrain.

Many convert into travel systems that include two carrycots or car seats. They are often heavier, longer and less stable than a single pushchair.

Convertible

There are a variety of options for adding a second seating or changing a single stroller into a double stroller for Twins. The Vista V2 from UPPAbaby is a large, gorgeous stroller that can easily be converted from a single stroller to double by adding the rumble seating (available separately). However, it's expensive and less mobile than other double strollers since the second seat is placed in front of the front seat. Nuna Demi Grow provides a similar choice but lacks storage under the seat when used as a double stroller.

Other alternatives include all-terrain twin buggies and fixed-wheel joggers that can accommodate two children. These are more expensive, but they are made for long trips on rough terrain and have more expensive resales.

Reclining the seat independently

If you require a double buggy that is able to carry children of different ages then you're going to need a buggy that has an independent seat recline for both seats. This allows your older child to relax while the baby is sleeping in a bassinet and the reverse is true.

Consider the size of your pushchair and consider the ease of you to get through doors and public transportation. Its innovative frame can be expanded widthwise to accommodate a second seat and can be used with up to two carrycots or car seats making it a great option for older siblings that want to sit in a group and share the view. It's a little longer than other models, but it's light to steer and comes with soft suspension to tackle the kerbs.

There are many 3-wheeler tandems with inline wheels that offer stability and swift steering. Take a look at Phil and Teds inline models or iCandy Peach and Pear buggies. They are often folded into a single buggy in case you have a small space at home, or need to transport it from the car to the bus.

Be aware that a double wide buggy will be more heavy and heavier than one that is compact. Be sure you know what you want prior to making a purchase. It will be used on trains, buses and subways frequently, so it should be easy to manage and use. You might also have to juggle it on and off the car seat when taking your children to school or nursery so you'll need to know it is able to be maneuvered in small spaces.

However, a quality tandem will last for a long time and will have an attractive resale value so at the end of the day you'll probably recoup some of the cost. The iCandy does not have the same seating configurations as our other top choices. However, it's an excellent choice for families who don't wish to spend lots of cash.
